I leaned in to wedge the dry erase board directly between my video gaming chair and the suitcase grandma gave me for graduation. All had to be readjusted before I could close the trunk. Maybe that’s why I didn’t hear Josie come up behind me.

This week at the YA Indie Carnival we’re kicking off our shoes and going BAREFOOT. It is summer, after all. In honor of this week’s topic, here’s an excerpt from Whispering Evil. In this part of the story, Keira allowed herself to be captured by the mogdocs in order to gain access to the Empress. Unfortunately, her ex-boyfriend foils the plan by rescuing her. She finds herself barefoot and far from home. Keira’s not the damsel in distress type, so asking for assistance, especially from her ex who’s still madly in love with her, holds about as much appeal as mystery loaf with cheese.

On Friday evening, I arrived home and barely set my purse down before I heard the wind coming on like a freight train. With little warning, a storm with “hurricane-force” winds hit our region and left devastation and dark houses behind.
The miracle workers at AEP (Appalachain Electric Power) continue to work 16+ hour days to restore power under a record-breaking heat wave. I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to these folks. Our power came back yesterday – yeah! no more cold showers by glow stick!!
Seriously though, it could have been much worse than a cold shower. God watches over us, kiddos. I have no doubt about that.
So, back to business as usual. Because of the lack of power, phone, or even cell signal after the storm, I was unable to reveal the teaser trailer for Book 4, Shadows Rising, on Sunday as planned. So here it is…
This week’s indie carnival topic is Villains. The nastiest nasty I’ve written about has got to be Bov Gammen.
The son of the original boogeyman, Bov certainly lived up to his father’s example. He ruled the Mogdoc Empire with ruthless determination and harvested humans like grapes for their fine wine. Now that he has passed on (death at the tip of a poisoned dagger),
only time will tell if his children, Broo and Brun, will carry on his legacy.
