YA Indie Carnival: Current Work in Progress

This week at the YA Indie Carnival the indies are revealing their works in progress. I’m so excited to see what everyone is working on. Probably not a surprise to anyone here that my time lately is completely dedicated to finishing Shadows Rising, book 4 in the Midnight Guardian series. 

Here’s your first look at the full cover. We start SR in the days just after Midnight Child ended. Keira’s charge, Drew, has been kidnapped and she will do anything to get him back, even if that means marching right through the Empress’s front door.

Sneak Peek: Shadows Rising

Here’s the scoop…

I’m currently wrapping up Shadows Rising (Book 4, Midnight Guardian series) with a tentative Halloween release. The fourth installment begins with the kidnapping of Keira’s charge, toddler Drew Hayes.

Keira Ryan is pretty much like any midwestern teen girl. Pretty much, except for the fact that she’s a guardian, an ancient species dedicated to nurturing those in the human race whom are destined change the world for the better.

Problem is, just a heartbeat away, behind a magical barrier, thrives a race of gremlin-like creatures that want nothing more than to destroy the human race. Led by the Gammen royal family, the mogdocs, are doing their best to tear their way into our world.

The thing about this series is, about the time you have it all figured out, you look up and see that you’re back to square one. One moment, you’re falling for the nice guy; the next you’re rooting for the bad boy. Even the class clown can bring you to tears. Dip your toes in book 1, Of Sun & Moon. Let the overall feeling of wrongness envelope you in book 2, Whispering Evil. Take a wild ride in book 3, Midnight Child. When the villians’ special talent is manipulation–nothing is EVER as it seems.

Midnight Guardian series, Shadows Rising

Update

Getting asked about Book 4 in the Midnight Guardian series is a daily occurrence now, so I thought I would give everyone a quick update.

The title’s going to be Shadows Rising. I haven’t set a tentative release date except for “Fall 2012” because I’m sort of a freak about deadlines (comes from my journalism days). I absolutely refuse to miss a deadline. So here’s my crazy logic—if I don’t have a deadline set, there’s not one to miss and you benefit from a story that’s properly “baked”.

Shadows Rising, Trailers

Surviving the Storm

On Friday evening, I arrived home and barely set my purse down before I heard the wind coming on like a freight train. With little warning, a storm with “hurricane-force” winds hit our region and left devastation and dark houses behind.

The miracle workers at AEP (Appalachain Electric Power) continue to work 16+ hour days to restore power under a record-breaking heat wave. I would like to send out a big THANK YOU to these folks. Our power came back yesterday – yeah! no more cold showers by glow stick!!

Seriously though, it could have been much worse than a cold shower. God watches over us, kiddos. I have no doubt about that.

So, back to business as usual. Because of the lack of power, phone, or even cell signal after the storm, I was unable to reveal the teaser trailer for Book 4, Shadows Rising, on Sunday as planned. So here it is…
